Current conditions in Sanibel, FL: Clear and Windy, and 63°F

Florida, A little basic info:

Ahhh, sunny, Sanibel, Florida. Miles of white sandy beach blanketed with sea shells; numerous restaurants serving light lunch and coffee, to home style meals, to grand fare of seafood or steak; birds passing by, including pelicans, osprey, gulls, herons, and egret; quiet corners to relax in the sun and read a book; bath-water warm, aqua-colored ocean to swim in. Don’t you wish you were there? Well here’s your chance to go.

First, a little info on Sanibel weather. At the end of May, the average high is around 90 and the average low is in the upper 60’s, so it can get pretty hot some days. There is a great fluctuation in humidity too, and can get muggy at times. As we experienced on our planning trip, it can also be 83 degrees, with very low humidity, and absolutely beautiful. Watch the weather closely and plan accordingly. May is prior to hurricane season, so don’t worry about that.

Driving in Florida is interesting. People drive fast, and beware of what we have named "The Miami", a move by another driver where at an intersection, they pass you in the left turn lane, then cut in front of you! But feel free to try it for yourselves, if you feel daring! Just don't tell the police that we condone it...because we don't. At least not on purpose.

No-see-ums. No What? No-see-ums: little bugs also known as sand fleas that are found on the beach. They are so small, they can fit through patio screens. Just a little FYI for those who don’t know. They are small, but the bites can turn ugly and red. Bring insect repellant with DEET, it should work OK. We will provide some at the wedding.

At the time of year we’re having the wedding, Sanibel is not busy at all, so don’t worry about it being too crowded with tourists.
